You can't stop Joey Wiemer. You can only hope to contain him.
The Washington Nationals outfielder tied a major-league record by reaching base in 10 consecutive plate appearances to start his season. Wiemer extended the streak with an infield single in the first inning of Monday's game against the Philadelphia Phillies and then tied Carlos Delgado's mark with a third-inning single.
The streak finally ended in the top of the fifth when Wiemer grounded out to pitcher Taijuan Walker.

Wiemer joins Delgado and Hall of Famer Yogi Berra (in 1956) as one of just three players to reach base in at least nine straight PAs to begin a season since data became available in 1951, according to Sarah Langs of MLB.com.
During his run, Weimer tallied eight hits, two homers, a triple, and two walks. He also scored four runs and added four RBIs.
The red-hot start to 2026 follows what was a turbulent offseason for Wiemer, who was designated for assignment twice before being claimed off waivers by Washington in January. He spent the majority of last season in Triple-A and played just 27 big-league games in 2025 with the Miami Marlins.
Although his record-tying streak is now over, the 27-year-old is still hitting a cool .889/.909/1.778 through 11 PAs this year.
