The New York Rangers signed defenseman Will Borgen to a five-year contract extension, the team announced Saturday.

The deal carries a $4.1-million average annual value, according to Vince Z. Mercogliano of USA Today.

New York acquired Borgen on Dec. 18 in a trade with the Kraken that sent former No. 2 overall pick Kaapo Kakko to Seattle. The Rangers also received a third- and sixth-round pick in the 2025 draft from the Kraken as part of the deal.

The contract includes a no-movement clause for the rest of the 2024-25 season, Peter Baugh of The Athletic reports. It then becomes a 15-team no-trade list in 2025-26, a 10-team no-trade list in 2026-27, a six-team list in 2028-29, and finally, no protection for the last year of the deal.

Borgen has one goal and a pair of assists in 17 games since arriving in New York. He registered a goal and an assist over 33 contests this season with Seattle before the deal. The 28-year-old had a career-high 25 points for the Kraken last campaign.

Borgen was playing out the final year of his contract with a $2.7-million cap hit and set to be an unrestricted free agent at season's end. He's now signed with the Rangers through the 2029-2030 campaign.
