Toronto Blue Jays catcher Alejandro Kirk has been placed on the injured list after fracturing his left thumb, the team announced Saturday.

Kirk also dislocated his thumb, according to MLB.com's Keegan Matheson. He'll meet with a doctor Monday to determine if he needs surgery. His return timetable is unclear.

The two-time All-Star suffered the injury during Friday's loss to the Chicago White Sox after a foul tip struck the thumb on his glove hand in the 10th inning. Tyler Heineman will replace him as the starting catcher.

The Blue Jays recalled catcher Brandon Valenzuela from Triple-A on Saturday, and he'll slot in as Heineman's backup.

Kirk, 27, has one home run and two RBIs through five games this season.
