Detroit Tigers top prospect Kevin McGonigle will start the 2026 season in the majors, the club announced Tuesday.

McGonigle is set to make his MLB debut Thursday against the San Diego Padres on Opening Day.

The 21-year-old infielder is considered MLB's second-best prospect, according to MLB Pipeline. He will reach the majors without playing in Triple-A.

McGonigle went deep twice with a team-high 11 walks and an .888 OPS over 20 games during spring training. He also hit 19 homers with 80 RBIs and a .991 OPS in 88 contests between three minor-league levels in 2025.

The Tigers selected McGonigle with the 37th overall pick in the 2023 draft.
